Filming the Klingons

Created: May 19, 2010

On May 12th, Project: Potemkin completed shooting its first footage: the second unit completed the Klingon bridge scenes.

Blaire Erskine took on the role of Commander Kumaonna, and Trey Cole took on the role of Lieutenant Korg, her science officer. All in all, filming went very well. James Ealum was on hand to run the camera and the set. Randy Landers served as the director (and make-up artist). Ricky Thompson was on hand to serve as producer. Kim Landers assisted as our still photographer.

Blaire Erskine as Commander Kumaonna

Trey Cole as Lieutenant Korg

Originally, we had planned to post a few clips from the shoot on the site, but we've decided against that because of bandwidth concerns and because of concerns about spoilers.

Instead, we're opting to post a few low-resolution screen caps from the video. The actual video is at a higher resolution. All of the footage shot will appear on the mainviewer of the Potemkin's bridge.

The lighting is intentionally red and blue.

Trey is quite the comedian.

Trey laughed at Blaire's line, causing a re-take.

Even though it was in the mid 80's (temp and humidity), both actors kept their cool.

Ooops, one eyebrow started slipping. Randy to the rescue.

Everyone had a good time!

Once the footage was shot, it was converted into a file for viewing. Unfortunately, it appeared grainy and uneven. It looked as though a reshoot was in order until it was realized that it had been saved as a lower resolution file. Once it was changed to a higher resolution file, it was reviewed by several parties who pronounced it as perfect for our intentions.

That allowed us to strike that set, and commence construction on the Engineering and Enviromental stations.
