Building the Bridge 11

Created: July 17, 2010

We're almost finished with the bridge! The only thing left to do is to install the bridge railing and our backdrop for the "backdoor" alcove, both of which should be done tomorrow or Monday.

The control panel is not the one which will appear in the film.

At the suggestion of several folks, we purchased a black seat cover for the center seat.

The "backdoor" of the bridge will be filled with a white vinyl fabric partition (a tarp, of sorts) with decals.

As you can see, the carpeting has been laid. Ricky and Randy both spent far more time than we had originally guestimated in getting the carpet laid (five days, not two). We ended up purchasing a third of the carpeting out of the odds'n'ends bin, and opted for buying the rest needed. Total Cost: $130. That's a far cry less than the $350 for carpet and $500-$600 we were given estimates to lay it. Is it perfect? You can't tell, and we're betting that no one will be able to tell while watching the movie. The carpeting was finished on Thursday, and a few touch-ups were made on Saturday.

So what's left? On Friday, Ricky had classes in Atlanta, so Randy cut the wood to height and length for the installation of the railing. On Saturday, he had to work at Fast Copy, but then came home and painted the cut wood. On Sunday, Randy plans to paint the other side of the wood he painted today, and hopes to assemble the railing during the evening.

Our schedule for the coming week:

7/19 - Sunday: Finish Painting and Install Bridge Railing; Install Back Partition; Adjust overhead ventilation system.
7/20 - Monday: Installation of Control Panel Appliques Continues; Purchase of Four More Chairs

7/22 - Wednesday: Installation of Control Panel Appliques Continues

Options Still Being Considered:

· Installation of Vinyl Enclosure for Carport
· Running a Flexible Exhaust Hose from Dryer Exhaust Vent out the side to help keep the set cool on laundry day.
