Building the Bridge 5

Created: May 10, 2010

On May 1st, Michael Zock sent a couple of sample renderings based on our initial set plans. While many components are completely different, the illustrations show that while a little tight, ours is certainly a feasible deck plan. Our thanks to Michael for sharing these with us! It certainly was inspiring to us to see these renditions after a particularly bad day on set construction (one of our plans for covering the side panels of the stations fell through as completely and utterly impractical).

As usual, work continues on the bridge set. Below left, you can see that on Saturday, May 8th, we've added 1"x3" cross sectional supports for the sides of the Communication and Science stations. This not only adds stability to the station, but allows us to attach the particle board. In the picture below left, we've begun to add scrap particle board to create a bottom cover that will hide the electrical wiring of the station. In the picture below right, you can see a more complete version of that bottom cover and where we added the first control panel of the science station.

You'll also notice the Klingon bridge facade on the picture on the left. We did the makeup test on our Klingon Commander on Friday, May 7th, and intend to film the evening of Wednesday, May 12th. Makeup is expected to take about an hour. Filming around an hour at the most. Then we'll be in position to strike that set and work on the Engineering and Environmental stations.

On Sunday, May 9th, we did the cut outs needed for the Security and Tactical stations, which is one set piece. Tonight, we assembled the two stations and moved them into position. In the picture on the left, you can see the two stations from the right side of the Science station. In the right picture, you can see the two stations from the Mainviewer.

This coming week, we'll be adding the cross slats to the Security and Tactical stations, and begin covering them with the particle board on Tuesday. We'll be filming the Klingon scenes Wednesday. We'll be striking the Klingon set on Thursday and building the Engineering and Environmental sets. This weekend, we'll begin work on our turbolifts!

All in all, it should be another really busy week!
