Construction continues on the bridge set.
Van and Randy finished the construction of the frame on Sunday, April 24th. (See below left.) You'll notice that we've got a 22' tarp to protect the set from the weather. You'll also notice that we had plenty of OSB (oriented strand board) ready. On Monday, April 25th, Randy and Ricky cut all the pieces of OSB to the 36x18 dimensions to cover each section of the frame. On Tuesday, Randy and his son Jeremy finished covering the frame. (See below right.) You'll notice the helm-navigation/astrogator station is covered to protect it as well.

Here's a couple of more shots of the elevated platform. You'll notice our scrap pile in the photo below left. Most of that was turned into the turbolift platform and ready room entrance foyer. In the picture on the right, you'll notice the Klingon bridge pieces as well as the work table.
On Wednesday, we framed out our first station (below left). This was an experiment constructed using 2x12's to weight the structure down and OSB. The frame worked, but clearly needed squaring off which is on our list of priorities for this coming week. You'll also note that on Friday, we added the readyroom platform on the right (which includes the screen door), and on Saturday, we added the turbolift platform (on the left, which includes the storage closet door). We're considering removing one more foot of the left-side of the storage room door frame to make for a more spacious turbolift. Below right, you can see our helm station in its position with the science station in background.
Below left: On the far right corner of our set, we've got the temporary Klingon bridge set positioned. You can see how we've run the set lights for the Klingon bridge as well as the bar chair we're using as the Klingon commander's chair (it won't be visible in the episode because it'll be hidden by her cape). To the left, you can see the work station, and to the right, you can see our bridge station template made of 3/4" plywood. Below right: You can get a better idea of how the set will look on camera. Of course, when we shoot the Klingon sequence, the camera will be level, and we'll have the lights set up so that there's no reflection on either the wall or the wall decal. You can see the Klingon Science Officer's station through the red grating as well. We're hoping to do some makeup tests in the coming week, and have the Klingon scenes shot by Saturday, May 15th. Afterwards, we intend to strike the Klingon set and convert the back wall to our turbolift interior.
In addition to the work on the bridge set, this week, we cast three more actors in roles (including our captain!). We should have some pictures and their biographies soon to add to this website. We only have three roles left for this production, although in the future, we'll be adding another three or four roles.
This coming week, we intend to construct the framing for all six bridge stations (including re-building the test station), and hopefully we ready to start finishing the stations. We also will be having an eletrician installing accent/spotlights over each station, and a carpet installer to measure the set for the carpet scraps they're willing to part with. All in all, it should be a busy week!
